Baghdad derby (Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya–Al Shorta)

The Baghdad derby between Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and Al Shorta, sometimes referred to as the Baghdad 'El Clásico', is a football rivalry between Baghdad-based clubs Al Shorta and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya. They are two of the oldest clubs in Iraqi football history, with Al Quwa Al Jawiya being founded in 1931 and Al Shorta just a year later.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://alshorta.webs.com/history.htm )〕 The two sides have been battling for honours ever since the 1932–33 Prince Ghazi Cup, and together they won nine of the twelve League of the Institutes titles that took place between 1962 and 1974. The first two trophies Al Shorta won in their history were both won by defeating Al Quwa Al Jawiya in the final (1–0 in the 1938 Taha Hashemi Cup final and 2–0 in the 1939 Al Quwa Al Jawiya Cup final), while Al Quwa Al Jawiya defeated Al Shorta in both the 1978 and 1997 Iraq FA Cup finals.
The League of the Institutes was replaced with the Iraqi Premier League in 1974, and Al Shorta and Al Quwa Al Jawiya remain the only two Iraqi clubs to have played in every single season of the Premier League since its inception 41 years ago.〔 Al Shorta have won four Premier League titles with Al Quwa Al Jawiya just ahead on five, but Al Shorta have won a major international club competition (the 1982 Arab Champions League) whereas Al Quwa Al Jawiya have only won domestic competitions. The rivalry is local, historic and competitive one; the clubs' stadiums are situated either side of Falastin Street, mere metres away from each other, while both sides have been competing for and continue to compete for the league title almost every season.
In terms of matches between the two, Al Shorta has the better record in the Iraqi Premier League with 23 wins, two wins more than Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya's 21, and Al Shorta also leads in total matches with 29 wins to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya's 28.
